Grab a SEAT for your next road trip
There's no better way to explore the beauty that is New Zealand than hopping in a car and going on a roadie. A road trip gives you the freedom to explore on your own time, for the ultimate ‘choose your adventure’ experience.
To give some starting inspiration, we’ve planned a little South Island roadie for you and the family. Get behind the wheel of a SEAT (Say-at) today and head off on the adventure of a lifetime.
Destination One: Christchurch
Starting in Christchurch—the beautiful garden city due to its many green spaces—enjoy the modern architecture that continues to pop up around the city. Explore the botanic gardens, hop in a boat and travel down the Avon or if it’s a foodie experience you’re after, head to the Pink Lady restaurant atop the MUSE hotel. Don’t forget to swing by the SEAT store to say hello.
Destination Two: Akaroa
Once you’ve explored all that is Christchurch, hop back in your car and drive 1.5 hours to the beautiful Akaroa. Home of the rare Hector’s Dolphin, you may catch a sighting as they play and splash along the shore. Staying in the water theme, you can go out kayaking exploring the towering volcanic cliffs, reefs and sea caves of the Pohatu Marine Reserve. Enjoy the freshest Fish and Chips in NZ at the Akaroa Fish and Chip shop to top off the day.
Destination Three: Lake Tekapo via Rangitata
Next stop, Lake Tekapo. Take some time to soak up the views of the beautiful blue lake, with the Southern Alps standing proudly as a backdrop. You’ll be spoilt for choice with activities, whether it’s taking a scenic flight, stargazing at the observatory or a relaxing, warm afternoon in the Tekapo springs.
Destination Four: Omarama
Nestled in between mountain ranges, Omarama is a must-do stop to check out their hot tubs and sauna. Filled with pure mountain water and. set in a private oasis, the outdoor spa experience is truly unique. If adventure is calling instead, visit Glide Omarama for an unforgettable experience soaring through the mountains.
Destination Five: Alexandra via Wanaka and Queenstown
It’s no secret that Wanaka and Queenstown are bursting with activities to keep you busy. But after that, you might want to wind down and head to the beautiful Alexandra, a quaint town that prospers with orchards and vineyards. Enjoy a relaxing tour of the grounds, or perhaps head to the golf course set in the Manuherikia Valley for a hit.
Destination Six: Moeraki via Dunedin
The last destination of this epic roadie, Moeraki, was once the location of a whaling station, but now the home of mysteriously shaped boulders positioned along the beach. You’ll drive through Dunedin to get here, so be sure to visit Larnach Castle on the way; it’s the only castle in New Zealand.
